Design + Fabrication

About fifteen years ago a designer asked if I could fabricate her idea, because she couldn’t find anyone that would do it. It required sewing skills that I “sort of” had and it seemed like something that I could do. My skills have gotten better over the years and now fabrication and design are a part of C3 Design LLC. Below are images of some of the projects that we have finished. Since that first project we have also fabricated quite a few pillow projects, for corporate as well as hospitality spaces. They are always fun, as pillows do seem to put the finishing touch on a space.

Steelcase Showroom @ Columbus Circle
This is a project for the Steelcase NY showroom renovation. The material used was 100% wool felt from Designtex. The process employed was pleating with a felt fin in varying heights added to one side of the pleat. 10’h x 16’w

This was a project for a cafe at Google’s offices in NYC. 1/4” felt strips were sewn to a wallpaper design by Jill Malek. It was installed on the ceiling and 2 walls of niche to back up the banquettes.

Mizu Restaurant - North Carolina
Narrow felt strips were sewn to a mural design called Babylon by Jill Malek. The idea was to give some volume to the branches of the mural.

Brooklyn Botanical Gardens
This was a 94’ long collaboration with Rockwell Group. C3 was tasked with bringing some dimension to the walls of a long narrow space. We embellished the design with felt flowers and branches and then appliquéd details into the design.

This was the first project C3 Design did for Google at the Chelsea Market location. Working with IA, Google wanted a traditional quilt feel but because it’s NY it needed to be large. The wall finished a 75’ and turns a corner at the far end. It is comprised of 22 attached quilts with nailhead trim at the junction points, over a batting covered wall.
